Mbhetsa Academy – Academy of Science Maths and technology

Mbhetsa is located in Makgakgapatse Village in Mopani District, Limpopo. Mbhetsa Academy of Science Maths and Technology NPC “the Academy or Mbhetsa” is a Non-Profit Company, incorporated in 2018, and an approved Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).

The Academy was incorporated by partners who believe that quality education has the potential to not only alleviate poverty but also change the economic and social landscape of poor individuals based in our country’s rural communities.

The Academy aspires to serve as a  Maths, Science and Technology Centre of Excellence to expose youth to career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields of study, and to support South Africa’s capacity development across these disciplines, with a key focus on rural communities.

To provide learners from rural and poor communities with access to safe and stimulating learning facilities that support quality education and educational outcomes that are responsive to the developmental needs of South Africa.

OUR MISSION

To bridge the urban-rural divide in education through our Academic Support and Enrichment Programmes, facilitated by qualified educators in well-equipped learning facilities, in an environment that exposes learners to the critical thinking required by higher learning institutions and in the world of business.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Through its Academic Support and Enrichment Programmes, the Academy aims to supplement the prevailing NSC curriculum available to the learners, improve their results and prepare the learners for higher education given the various limitations of their backgrounds.

In addition to the curriculum, the Academy aims to:

  • Increase awareness for numeracy and ICT skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing world and to develop in each learner:

      • Scientific and technological understanding and the confidence to communicate effectively using modern technology.

      • The ability to apply knowledge and skills to solve problems.

      • A creative and enquiring mind committed to life-long learning.

  • Develop learners for social integration at institutions of higher education and in business, by employing educators that will recognise learner challenges, provide guidance and develop in each learner a  sense of self-worth and confidence.

  • Restore the dignity of learners, educators, and families living in rural communities, through the provision of quality education with ability to sustainably impact lives.

  • Investing in the local community towards improved socio-economic conditions.
